Preghiera dall’Italia
“Dio d’amore,
vieni a trovarci nelle case da cui non possiamo uscire – o da cui ci affacciamo rapidi, guardinghe, col volto coperto.
Vieni ad abbracciarci una per uno, positive e negativi, malati e asintomatiche, lavoratori essenziali e madri in smart-working, disoccupate e partite iva, bambine e bambini col naso schiacciato alla finestra.
Vieni a raccoglierci dal divano, o dal pavimento, stringici forte le mani, scuotici, soffia.
Fioriscici dentro.
Vieni a sederti nelle nostre bolle da un metro e ottanta e preparaci per quando, tra non molto, incontreremo i glicini ormai sfioriti, e i nostri simili, a distanza di sicurezza.
Vieni a tirarci i capelli quando ci dimentichiamo che non sono gli altri il nostro prossimo, siamo noi il prossimo per loro: il runner, la poliziotta, l’infermiere, lo spacciatore, la senzatetto, il presidente Conte.
Vieni a scompaginare le nostre Bibbie e mostraci la Parola che pensavamo di sapere. Vieni a prenderci per mano e portaci fuori, a combattere l’ingiustizia, la violenza, la sopraffazione, e poi la solitudine, l’angoscia, il dolore, nel rispetto della distanza fisica, e perciò con più forza, con più audacia, con più fermezza.
Vieni a sederti al nostro posto in chiesa, quando torneremo in chiesa, così da costringerci a vagare alla ricerca di un posto nuovo; così da convincerci alla necessità di costruire una chiesa nuova, un mondo nuovo, un assaggio –del tutto migliorabile!- di quel giorno che arriverà il Tuo Regno, quando saremo, finalmente, guarite/i.
Fino ad allora, che il Tuo Spirito ci guidi, e trapassi ogni mascherina.”

“God of love,
come and visit us in the houses we cannot escape from – or from which we gaze on quickly, wary, with our faces covered.
Come and hug us one by one, positive and negative, sick and asymptomatic, essential workers and smart-working mothers, unemployed and self-employed, girls and boys with their noses squeezed at the window.
Come and gather us from the sofa, or from the floor, hold on to our hands tightly, inspire us, breathe.
Thrive inside us.
Come and sit in our one meter and eighty bubbles and get us ready for when, soon enough, we will meet the wilted wisteria, and our fellow beings, at a safe distance.
Come and remind us when we forget that others are not our neighbor, we are their one’s neighbor: the runner, the policewoman, the nurse, the drug dealer, the homeless, the President Conte.
Come disrupt our Bibles and show us the Word we thought we knew. Come take us by hand and take us out, to fight injustice, violence, oppression, and then loneliness, anguish, pain, respecting physical distance, and therefore with more force, with more audacity, with more firmness.
Once we get back to church, come sit in our place, so as to make us wander in search of a new place; so as to convince us of the need to build a new church, a new world, a glimpse – that can be totally improved! – of that day that Your Kingdom will come, when we will finally be healed.
Until then, may Your Spirit guide us, and pass through every mask.”

Gesù Cristo, Signore della vita e della storia, dacci l’acqua di vita, che guarisce e cura tante malattie, l’ingiustizia e l’esclusione.

Stiamo attraversando un periodo difficile di scoraggiamento, di sofferenza e di lutto a causa del propagarsi della pandemia del nuovo coronavirus, COVID-19. Come scrive il presidente, past. C. Krieger, e il segretario generale, dott. J.S. Sørensen della Conferenza delle chiese europee (KEK): “Durante questo periodo d’incertezza globale, abbiamo bisogno di segni di unità e speranza. (…) Oggi, il mondo ci chiama ad essere uniti. Non solo nella lotta contro questa devastante pandemia, ma anche nel sostenerci vicendevolmente e sentirci in comunione, ricordandoci di trarre lezioni da questa crisi.”
Le nostre chiese “metodiste e valdesi”, i nostri singoli membri di chiesa hanno cercato di farlo attraverso l’impegno personale nei propri ambiti lavorativi, attraverso la lettura e la meditazione della Parola, nella preghiera da soli o in gruppi, anche attraverso l’utilizzo dei supporti tecnologici.
Sappiamo che la preghiera è un’azione attiva della nostra fede che il Signore ci invita a perseguire insieme alla vigilanza costante.
Il CP permanente dell’OPCEM e la Tavola valdese esprimono, per le chiese metodiste e valdesi, condivisione per ogni iniziativa che rafforzi, in questo momento di profondo dolore, smarrimento, paura il sentimento di unione dei cristiani nella preghiera, privata o pubblica, per coloro che affrontano la distretta, le perdite dei loro cari, per le persone impegnate nella ricerca, nella cura e nella sicurezza.
Dalla fiducia che il Cristo risorto intercede per l’intera umanità sofferente, smarrita, impaurita traiamo insieme consolazione, forza e speranza. Nella condivisione della preghiera all’interno dell’ecumene cristiana ravvisiamo un segno potente della comune partecipazione alla dimensione universale del popolo di Dio e di cura per tutti gli uomini e le donne che egli ama.
Inviti a mantenere saldi i legami di fraternità attraverso la preghiera ci giungono dalle chiese sorelle metodiste sparse nel mondo e il Consiglio Metodista Europeo ha lanciato l’idea di condividere ogni settimana una preghiera, una meditazione e una storia proveniente da ogni singola chiesa metodista europea. La prima condivisa è stata una preghiera dall’Italia.

L’invito alla preghiera comune ci giunge anche dall’ambito ecumenico come quello rivolto, per l’oggi e per i giorni a venire, dalla Chiesa Cattolica Romana a pregare insieme con la preghiera del Padre Nostro, la preghiera perfetta insegnataci da Gesù, che accompagna da sempre un cammino ecumenico che si nutre di preziose occasioni di ascolto comune della Parola, di sostegno reciproco, di collaborazione nell’aiuto ai minimi e di comune impegno ed intercessione per la salute, la pace e la giustizia nel mondo intero.

We are going through a difficult period of discouragement, suffering and mourning due to the spread of the pandemic of the new coronavirus COVID-19. As the President, Rev. C. Krieger, and the Secretary General, Dr. J.S. Sørensen of the Conference of European Churches (KEK), have written: “During these times of global uncertainty, we need signs of unity and hope. […] The world today calls us to be united. Not only fighting against this devastating pandemic, but also in order to support one another and to feel in communion, remembering to draw lessons from this crisis”.
At this time, our churches have tried to do this, through their personal commitment in their working environments, through the reading and meditation of the word, through their prayers and through their creative use of technological media.
We know that prayer is an active response of our faith, which the Lord invites us to pursue together with constant vigilance.
On behalf of all our churches, The OPCEMI’s Standing Committee and the Tavola Valdese thank you for every initiative that you undertake which reinforces the feeling of unity among Christians. Our prayers during this very difficult time are for the care and safety of all those who have been affected by this tragedy.
We draw consolation, strength and hope from the trust that we have in the risen Christ who intercedes for all of those who suffer. In our prayer together as Christians, whatever our label, we witness to the coming kingdom of our Lord where everyone, no matter who they are or where they are from, will participate in the universal kingdom of our God whose love for us all knows no bounds.
At this time, Methodist churches all over the world are extending their invitation to maintain our firm bonds of fraternity through prayer. The European Methodist Council has launched the idea of sharing, every week, a prayer, a meditation and a story from every single European Methodist church, the first was an Italian one.

The invitation to prayer has come also from our ecumenical partners. The Roman Catholic Church has also asked us to pray together with The Lord’s Prayer, the perfect prayer taught to us by Jesus. Let us witness our love to him by this collaboration, helping the least by our intercession for health, peace and justice in the whole world.

“Dio di grazia,
ci volgiamo a te in preghiera in questo tempo difficile
in cui il diffondersi di un’infezione pandemica ha costretto il nostro governo
a misure restrittive che limitano il normale corso della vita,
bloccano la nostra socialità e rischiano di farci chiudere ancor più nel nostro piccolo ambito.
Aiutaci a ricordare che sono necessarie.
Ti preghiamo Dio di amore,
aiutaci a mantenere i legami comunitari e solidali con le nostre sorelle e i nostri fratelli,
in particolare con coloro che sono nella malattia e nel bisogno,
ed aiutaci ad essere una famiglia per coloro che sono senza una famiglia.
Ti preghiamo Dio di guarigione,
per coloro che sono stati contagiati e per i loro familiari,

restrictive measures that limit the normal course of life,
they block our sociality and risk making us shut up in our increasingly small sphere,
but they are necessary.
God of love,
help us to maintain community bonds and solidarity with our sisters and brothers,
especially with those who are in sickness and need,
and help us to be a family for those who are without a family.
God of healing,
we pray for those who have been infected and for their family members,
give them the courage to face this moment of illness;
we pray for all healthcare workers who are spending so much
to manage this epidemic competently and generously,
for scientists who are working hard on a cure in a short time;
give them all strength and vision to face and try to stop this epidemic.
God of mercy,
allow us to live this time as a profitable opportunity to reflect on our experience of faith

help us, despite the difficulties of this situation, to keep us united and open to others,
help us not forgetting all the other great tragedies that undermine peace and disrupt the world.
God of salvation,
we pray you to support us in fighting the chains of exploitation and injustice
and help us to maintain chains of solidarity throughout Europe;
please don’t abandon us to the fear of contagion,
but even more to the contagion of fear
